WrapTech™ is the creator of electronic software distribution and digital rights management technology, providing a viral distribution solution to combat the problem of unauthorised use of downloadable computer software and digitally stored music.
The company's two core products are Softwrap™ and Soundwrap™, which provide virtual shrink-wrapping security to software and music files respectively. Both packages offer a turnkey solution, i.e. they run the distribution and rights management process for both the programme/music file user and programme author or music producer from start to finish. The software itself is totally free for authors or producers to download in order to protect their programmes or music files. Payment is made to WrapTech™ as a percentage of revenue accumulated from sales through Softwrap™ or Soundwrap™.
With WrapTech™ technology, authors of software or producers of music remain in complete control of the terms of any free trial they wish to offer, whether this is restricted by time or usage. Once the free trial terms have expired, users will have the option to purchase it either via the net, or toll-free over the phone. This is done in real time, and can be completed anywhere in the world. Upon successful authorisation of credit card details, the software is automatically unlocked, and money is transferred to the author's WrapTech™ account. Once activated, the protection offered by Softwrap™ or Soundwrap™ continues through WrapTech's™ patent-pending technology, which extracts the serial number of the computer's hard drive, and reverts the software to its trial-use status should it be used on any other machine. This effectively prevents the illegal re-distribution of the music or software even after it has been purchased, and at the same time encourages the copying of content.
WrapTech™ is a British-based company, with a marketing, research and development presence also in Australia, the USA, South Africa, and Israel. The company was incorporated in October 1999, with the software developed over a two-year period. Softwrap™ went live in the USA in April 2000, followed by Soundwrap™ in October 2000.
